Classes
Ballet
A classic dance form with specific terminology, technique, and choreography. Ballet class is highly structured and regimented due to the classical technique that must be fostered and perfected. Class begins by warming up at the barre and then continues to center floor which is followed by linking together combinations across the floor. Class typically ends with a curtsey or bow to show respect to the teacher.
JAZZ
Jazz is a rhythmic stylized dance conceived in America and influenced by jazz music. Jazz combines an erect spine and formal dance patterns of Europe with rhythmic, flat-footed, bent kneed influences from African cultures. Class starts with a proper warm-up, continues with isolations, balance, flexibility stretches, floor progressions, and choreography. Students should expect a high energy class with upbeat music with a strong emphasis on jazz technique.
Tap
Tap is a form of dance in which the feet create rhythmic sounds. Tap dance was conceived in America but is influenced by cultural dances from Spain, Germany, England, Ireland, and Africa. Class warm-up begins either center floor or at the barre, followed by stationary movements to enhance sound clarity, and recognize rhythm patterns. Students will practice traveling movements across the floor and will continue to build upon single, double, and triple sounds. Class concludes with a combination that reiterates the steps taught previously.
Flamenco
Flamenco is one of the most popular Spanish dance forms in the world. It exudes the charm of the gypsies, their fiery passion, and energy that radiates far beyond the constraints of the body. Be free and join us in setting the dance floor on fire with Flamenco footwork and intricate arm styling. Castanets are a percussion instrument often used in Flamenco dancing to produce a series of clicks and rattles to accompany the dance, music and song.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics involves difficult feats of balance, agility and coordination. Students learn how to do basic tumbling skills from forward rolls & cartwheels all the way up to advanced tricks such as aeriels, back-handsprings, tucks, layouts, contortion, and adagio partnering work. Through out the year, students will be working on improving their flexibility and strength in order to master these tricks. The teachers are saftey certified and expert spotters, and will teach your child based on personal ability. CLASS REQUIREMENTS: Hair must be pulled back and out of the face. No jewelry or baggy clothes permitted for the safety of your child. No shoes required
MUSICAL THEATER
Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warmup, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning perfomance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
salsa
Salsa class will place an emphasis on movement, musicality, coordination and fun. The students will learn the basics of salsa on 1 and 2- along with choreographed dance routine they will perform for the parents at the end of the year. Class is for boys and girls. No dance experience neccesary.
LYRICAL/contemporary
Lyrical/contemporary is a fluid form of dance done to popular ballads and slower contemporary music. The dance is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, motion and style. They will learn to tell a story or create the picture of the song. This style combines the fluid beauty of ballet with the more sharp moves in jazz. A Ballet or jazz class is recommended along with lyrical/contemporary to build in technique.
HIP HOP
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students
for more intense movements
Hip and Flip
This combination class is where little stars are born. In this class, tiny dancers learn the foundation of dance in a fun filled environment. Dancers will become familiar with the beginning steps of hip hop and acrobatics to some of their favorite music. We will use props to help with balance and coordination and provide an exciting, interactive experience.
